Having spent a decade and a bit as an active cancer researcher in the last years of the 20th century, it's pretty clear that the reason that cancer deaths have increased is that people weren't dying of anything else first. Cancer is, primarily, a disease of old age and its incidence rises with the sixth or seventh power of age. Obviously, a much smaller number of deaths occur amongst the younger and this is especially tragic as cancer in younger people is much more viscious, much more lethal and spreads far, far more quickly.
I wouldn't be at all surprised at the increase in neurological complications too: just ask yourselves what spraying the atmosphere with stuff containing aluminium does. Aluminium doesn't do your nervous system any good at all and I don't think anyone knows for sure what all that aluminium seeded into the atmosphere at levels where clouds form does to life on earth. I would be pretty pessimistic about its effects if I had to express my hunch, however.
Gut microbiomes are like soil microbiomes - a sign of good health. I've seeded all my young plants with small amounts of friendly bacteria and friendly fungi, along with small amounts of basaltic rock dust, mixed into my potting compost. It means that every time I plant out a vegetable plant, I am helping to invigorate soil health. I've not done specific experiments, but it really seems to help and might be really useful for those who find making good compost challenging (particularly if you lack space to do it).
I keep a pretty healthy soil, treating it with lots of respect and crop rotations, compost, no till after the first couple of years of amending.
I think aging does contribute to cancer, as you observe, but there are so many aspects of our defenses against cancer which are impaired by chemicals of all sorts, highly-processed diets, lack of activity and lack of fresh vegetables in the diet.
There are lots of contributors to health and longevity, mainly respecting nature.
That was a brain-frazzling amount of news/information in your post; it’s unreal how quickly and ceaselessly the goings-on of the day unfold...hard to keep up. In any case I appreciate your comprehensive compilation of the biggest stories of the day.
It’s nice that you have your garden to help you stay grounded- seeing the photos you post always inspire and uplift me. It inspires hope for the future to plant a new fruit tree! 🪴
