I also, personally think, that there were further intentional weaponized releases as military attacks, once the virus was known to be spreading in the world, such as the huge COVID wave in Iran right after General Soleimani's national funeral. Many political elites were stricken. It was a predictable situation for aerosolized viral spread, wasn't it?
Genetic assessment in Japan last year seemed to indicate most strains were only distantly related to each other. No time-lineage could be determined, as would happen with evolution in the human population over time.
