Sometimes I think the human imagination, coupled with "hope," can create a facade so real that most people will "believe". Too many people WANT TO BELIEVE, because tasting a juicy steak, even if only in an electronics-induced dream, is better than facing reality. In a sense, that is why Zerohedge quoted a report that North America leads the world in narcotics usage (not counting alcohol and tobacco, etc), because people here want the most, wish the most, hope the most, consume the most, and hit that resource wall first and at the highest speed. It is difficult to cope for both the individuals and the aggregation of individuals (society, nation, economy, etc.)
As a bad joke, sometimes I think the Americans have forgotten what math and physics are about, ever since the "New Math" took over. Math is cold and hard, and so is physics, in my opinion. They are difficult to like, for most people. In the process of attempting to make it fun to learn these hard subjects, teachers and curricula have already started painting a picture that is not exactly the reality.
