I continue to appreciate your "coverage" of the Israel-Gaza War. Essentially, Israel wants to push all the Palestinians out of Gaza and the West Bank, and . . . extend its boundaries? Which Arab nations will take Palestinian refugees? They don't want to do that now, what will change their minds?

Israel remains the neighbor from hell. And Britain set it all up.

It is a longstanding matter of regional pride to keep Palestinians from being forced out of Palestine, because they will never be allowed to return.

I used to think that computer AI had the potential for real consciousness that could match or surpass human consciousness. But under the Gnostic teachings, AI is only an imitation of consciousness, a part of the deficiency that has no recognition or remembrance of the numinous. And it is the numinous that confers life and true consciousness. Consciousness is a top-down phenomenon that exists prior to creation. AI is no more likely become conscious than it is to give birth to a puppy or a kitten or a human baby. Life and consciousness emanate from the same numinous source. AI is a bottom-up phenomenon, built from molecules and elements. It is not alive. All living creatures have consciousness along with life.

Thanks Cyd :-)

Yes, BUT this seems to be the same as the initial problem with the deficiency brought about by the "fall" of Logos, and The Divine (in aggregate) commenced to remediate that by means of entities such as ourselves, right?

So a capacity for "intellect" may be created, but "self-conscious personhood" may need to be "gifted" or "bestowed" somehow.

I remain Curious.-John

Please check your statement that the Turing test has been passed repeatedly. The Loebner prize has never been awarded after many annual competitions. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loebner_Prize And it is my experience that chatGPT is far more predictable and more limited than a human interlocutor.

Thanks Josh, There have been numerous statements that some people thought various AIs were humans, even going back a few years. I didn't realize there was a committee that would officially bestow an award.

Still, its rather a vague standard. I read that it was an off-the-cuff remark, initially.

My first question for any UK politician wanting my vote in 2024 is this: 'do you consider Bezalel Smotrich to be a fit and proper person to hold public office?'

If they say yes, or are equivocal, they won't get my vote. It's a simple as that.

If you support or appease a master-race Jewish racist Zionist, don't expect my vote. Ever.

From zerohedge article: "US Forces Kill Rebels During Maersk Ship (trading with Israel) Attack"

______________________________

And so from now on its official: US Forces are active participants in an unpremeditated skirmish with Yemeni Naval Forces. I guess, this means the war between US and Yemen imminent any time now, …

… mind you, preceding article is suggesting an attack on Yemen is already in advanced planing stage by the UK, … plus the U.S. and one more unnamed European country, … hence war, in fact, planned!

The DoD reported that the poor humans in the little speedboats fired on the choppers, so the choppers had to self-defend by obliterating their lives and bodies, which falls under "they would say that".

On the question of "consciousness" I trust my intuitions. When I look at a dog, I can sense that someone is looking back at me. This video seems like the behavior of a living being who is panicking. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvOz4V699gk

I resonate with Robert Frost's poem

A speck that would have been beneath my sight

On any but a paper sheet so white

Set off across what I had written there.

And I had idly poised my pen in air

To stop it with a period of ink

When something strange about it made me think,

This was no dust speck by my breathing blown,

But unmistakably a living mite

With inclinations it could call its own.

It paused as with suspicion of my pen,

And then came racing wildly on again

To where my manuscript was not yet dry;

Then paused again and either drank or smelt –

With loathing, for again it turned to fly.

Plainly with an intelligence I dealt.

It seemed too tiny to have room for feet,

Yet must have had a set of them complete

To express how much it didn't want to die.

It ran with terror and with cunning crept.

It faltered: I could see it hesitate;

Then in the middle of the open sheet

Cower down in desperation to accept

Whatever I accorded it of fate.

I have none of the tenderer-than-thou

Collectivistic regimenting love

With which the modern world is being swept.

But this poor microscopic item now!

Since it was nothing I knew evil of

I let it lie there till I hope it slept.

I have a mind myself and recognize

Mind when I meet with it in any guise

No one can know how glad I am to find

On any sheet the least display of mind.

I checked with Bing,.

Artificial Intelligence (AI), neuroscience, and philosophy are interconnected in several ways:

Shared Concepts: AI shares many concepts with philosophy, such as action, consciousness, epistemology (what it is sensible to say about the world), and even free will1. These shared concepts form the basis for a dialogue between AI and philosophy.

Influence on Each Other: The development of AI has had a profound impact on people’s working methods and lifestyles, and played an important role in promoting social change2. Conversely, philosophical thinking can influence the development and application of AI2.

Philosophical Analysis of AI: The philosophical study of AI examines what philosophy can do for AI and what AI can do for philosophy2. This involves analyzing the concepts of AI from the standpoint of philosophy1.

Neuroscience and AI: Neuroscience, the study of the nervous system and the brain, provides insights into human cognition and behavior that can inform the development of AI. For instance, understanding how the brain processes information can inspire new algorithms or architectures for AI systems3.

Neurophilosophy: This is a field that applies the methods of neuroscience to philosophical problems. It’s particularly relevant in the context of AI, as engineering AI or constructing psychological theories of mental states require the conceptual tools for self-critique and cross-disciplinary dialogue – precisely the tools that philosophy can supply4.

In summary, the relationship between AI, neuroscience, and philosophy is a complex and reciprocal one, with each field informing and being informed by the others.

There is also a very fine video of Dr. Iain McGilchrist delivering a keynote speech at the AI World Summit in October 2022 in Amsterdam. In relation to artificial intelligence, he drew on his latest book, "The Matter with Things: Our Brains, Our Delusions and the Unmaking of the World". Consciousness might precede the physical universe, though, so the causal and developmental relationships would be different.

I don't know yet. My "brains" are around 50% or a little past it on this.

Intuition is not "knowing", and there's no rush.

This might be how things are:

"Physical and consciousness are the same thing...and consciousness doesn't have a prejudice to be physical or not..."

I'm not sure, and I have never been afraid much, notably not afraid when facing imminent death a few times.

It didn't happen yet.

That's why I dropped everything else to just focus on "intellect". All those "qualia" get to complicated, and are certainly biological, connected to escape reflexes and so on.

I don't know if an artificial intellect can self-realize.

I'm waiting patiently.
