I like how you keep gardening through it all - and I am going to do just that!

"Victory Gardening" :-)

It's certainly a victory for 'small government', the process of sowing seeds, maybe transplanting them out and then just letting them grow without incessant external interference.

If might take 8 months to grow parsnips, but I get a whole winter's supply from 1.5sqm of growing area and only 2 hours of my time. Potatoes are the same - 3hrs a year for 100lb of food.

You have very good conditions for root crops, as I understand it.

Yes, SE England is relatively dry, reasonably warm, so parsnips, carrots grow down a long way in late spring/early summer seeking moisture if you don't water at all once the seeds are germinated. Then they bulk up beautifully with the autumn rains (this year the summer rains were more than often too).

It's also very good for beetroot, swede, autumn turnips+winter radish (they like the autumn rain, don't work well in spring) and potatoes and garlic are usually pretty good. For some reason I struggle with onions and shallots a bit, but it may be disease present when I inherited the growing area four years ago.

I keep trying different onion varieties against my "standard". They won't "harden off" right if there is too much nitrogen, though.

In France we say that "cultiver ton jardin" ie, to cultivate your garden, is to develop your self. And we certainly need strong souls for what we have to watch. Thanks for all the research you do, much appreciated.

Kunstler is defending Israel’s actions lately. I am done with him. Write him off and group him with the ADL and Soros. Too bad, I have been following him since 2007.

I wondered from time-to-time if his spiritual role was to take those who see the USA’s problems and instill hopelessness and despair into their potentially productive lives. Deindustrialze America while BRICS emeges with production and commerce.

He is an interesting commentator. I liked most his critique of souless, brutalist architecture and cities. American settlements from towns to cities are lacking a beating heart - the plaza aka town square.

How did I forget Steve Ludlum? He must of been on the periphery. I will bookmark him and see what he is up to. The Automatic Earth - years ago I attended a speech by Nicole Foss and our host group took her to dinner.

I too was from the peak oil community. When I first saw John’s writing, I could see our similar school of thought. Starting in 2007, I followed Kuntstler, Orlov, John Michael Greer, Albert Bates, KMO, Guy McPherson,... met a few in person at a conference too. I have come to reckon that peak oil is less an issue as there are other energy technologies that are suppressed. Ether physics, anti-gravitics, Tesla technology... too many cases leaking out to be false. I am cautious of techno-fixes and vapor-ware. I also understand the damage 9 billion people with so much energy could do to the planet. And then energy sources so powerful to crack open a planet. The parasites plan is likely to cull us off and THEN release some of the new energy tech.

We differ a little bit, but I enjoy your insights. When elites have infinite fiat and unbelievable power, what do they strive for?

Peak Oil Community: Actual energy and resources that are in decline.

Me: They have vast energy available with suppressed technology already and they own almost everything. Their objectives are genocide, culling, mind kontrol, transhumanism, genetic engineering, and technocractic control grid.

I also have hope in the wider “Global South” that they are authentic humans seeking soveign nations, healthy communities, and strong families. There must be enough sane leaders in the Global South to see cultural suicide coming their way from Western elite strategems.

Yeah the gardener!

Great recap of the Israel-Gaza conflict. Thank you!

I then read the entire Consortium News page and found it worthwhile. America is certainly getting fed crap news. And I discovered Caitlin Johnstone whose essay "The Moral Complexities Of Bombing A Concentration Camp Full Of Children" relieved my mind that I wasn't the only one horrified by the bombing. It was a huge relief, as I had spent most of this morning weeping over the children.

Absolute disgrace that Africans think that helping themselves is a better solution to their problems than US superiors telling them what to do, with IMF debt and World Bank conditions to the fore....

No, but the garden comes back in the fall if I keep it somewhat alive through the summer and "super summer", which were record-setting this year. This is the Austin garden in the picture. The Yoakum garden got ravaged by starving deer, which usually don't need to bother, and don't like the feel of my pavers on their hooves. It is also recovering, since they can eat other things again.

I was always amazed at how broccoli kept coming back after its leaves were chewed off. Lol. It’s it was too hot to grow. Then when it felt safe, September, it started again but something kept chewing the leaves off. It’s growing good now but it’s going to freeze. Really need a greenhouse up here.

Thank you John. I do think having the false “gods” creating religions wherever a new “lord” would take over is the problem we need to run out today. It’s always been about controlling the GMO clones. Teaching us and programming us was awful nice of them. .......but too much control.

As far as your Hamas/Palestinian - Israeli commentary, it's decidedly one sided. To me, the situation is simple, but deeply sad. Was it the Abraham Accords where Arafat, negotiating on behalf of all Palestinians, got 95% of what he asked for... but turned it down ? Wasn't good enough. THIS is the kind of insanity that Israel has had to deal with. As I'm sure I've said before, After losing badly to Israel via head on Wars (1948, 67, 73) the Arab states came up with a different way to attack Israel. They funded Palestinian terrorist organizations, so that the Palestinians would become the 'front-line troops ' in a forever war against Israel. After a period of relative calm... this October 7th event happened. Yes, Israeli women were killed laying atop their babies and the babies head's were cut off and other atrocities. I mean, that's enough for me. YES... Israel has continued to take Palestinian lands and build settlements. This is a serious provocation and wrong. But not one that justifies deeply evil murders of civilians. I innerstand what Israel's trying to do. They want to END Hamas. And if it takes destroying a large part of Gaza... so be it. ENOUGH. Since 1948 when Israel was born again as a nation, they've been under attack. They're fed up and I don't blame them. I support their efforts to END HAMAS, whatever the cost to the Palestinian people.

I assume you don't ever consider that the Palestinians ever got 'fed up' at any time since 1947?

Fed up with not being included in discussions over the land they lived on for centuries?

Treated as vote-less slaves by the British and the itinerant incoming Jews?

You also seem to think that this is an equal fight - the Gazans were like Amazon indians fighting Spanish/British gunfire with bows and arrows.

And you also do not seem to have educated yourself about the role Netanyahu had in setting up and financing Hamas. If you seriously think that Israel and Hamas aren't joined at the hip, you have had your head in the sand for decades.

Ever since 1947, Greater Israel has been the agenda for the Jews. Formalised by Oded-Yinon, perhaps, but always the plan and backed by nuclear weapons, a slave-like US money tree and the whole of Europe told to obey or else.

What do you expect all the non-Jews to do when Jews want to take all their land from them?

Lie down and die?????

Look, I recently saw a map of the West Bank... and the Israeli's have annexed so much of it that it's beyond belief. I'm for the 2 state solution. This means that Israel would have to give back a lot of real-estate to make this happen. Worldwide pressure would have to come to pass to see this happen. As part of any kind of deal, the Israeli's will not give up Jerusalem. The rest can negotiated. The problem is that over time, both sides have hardened their positions. And right now the Israeli's are bringing hellfire to Hamas and the Palestinians. And they don't give a shit who doesn't like it. What they're doing has a terrible cost to the Palestinians. Sometimes you can do some stuff that is beyond the pale which causes an extreme response. This is what we are witnessing now. And it's not over yet. When Israel was attacked in 1948... it was by the full modern equipped militaries of Egypt, Syria, Jordan And Lebanon. This was the total modern Armies of the Arab world combining to attack Israel. Ditto for the 1967 & 1973 wars. So the Arab countries switched tactics. They funded terrorist organizations who would process a forever war against Israel. I believe that Arafat got 95% of what he asked for from the Israeli's & Clinton. The Israeli's wouldn't agree to allow the Palestinians have East Jerusalem as their capital. That killed the deal. And here we are today. And 'What do I expect non-Jews to do when Jews take their lands ?' I expect them to fight for their lands. BUT don't even think of claiming that this was happening in Gaza. the Israelis were not taking pieces of Gaza. And I don't agree that killing mothers trying to protect their babies by laying atop them... and then beheading the babies... is acceptable. Do you find that acceptable ? That's low, bestial, subhuman behavior. What kind of people would do that ?The Israelis have never & would never do that to Palestinians. But Palestinians in this recent attack, did just that. So maybe it's things such as this that's producing an extreme level of ferocity by the Israeli's as they systematically destroy Hamas in Gaza... and unfortunately, as this happens, civilians will suffer.
