Yes, our environment is filled with noxious, deadly chemicals. That said, I wish someone would pay attention to Dr Guy Abraham's important work on breast cancer. We have a major epidemic of iodine deficiency in this country which in me manifested as gross hypothyroidism (nearly killed me because doctors neglected my glaring symptoms), but also manifests as various reproductive system cancers. Dr Abraham's work focused on the cause of breast cancer which rose when iodine was removed from bread (much better carrier than salt) as a dough conditioner and replaced with bromine, which is a toxic halide. Diabetes also rose as iodine lowers the blood sugar (my A1C went from 5.3 to 5.1 when I started taking Lugol's solution). So one way to combat some of those noxious chemicals is to take iodine daily in the form of INGESTIBLE iodine which helps rid the body's iodine receptors of the toxic halides -- fluorine, chlorine, bromine -- which are everywhere including in pharmaceuticals.
If anyone is interested in more information I highly recommend both Dr Brownstein's booklet on iodine and Lynne Farrow's The Iodine Crisis. The latter is particularly helpful if you want to start taking iodine and find you are having a horrible reaction as your body detoxes. And she also mentions all the women who cured their own cystic breasts and cancer through iodine.
I knew about Lugol's when I was a teenager and already showing symptoms, but druggists were already nothing but pushers and no longer knew how to make Lugol's. I didn't get diagnosed and treated until age 55 when I started taking COMPLETE thyroid hormone. So many people have a very bad reaction to levothyroxine. I swear that iodine helps the body to reconfigure T4 (levothyroxine) into T3 as my T4 numbers dropped and my T3 rose.
My history? Pregnancy (often causes hypothyroidism), head and neck injuries (associated with hypothyroidism), and that family history! So glad you have cured yourself! I take 4 grains (260mg split into three doses) of Armour thyroid daily as there is no cure for me
I get Armour from my direct care doctor and pharmacy. The 260MG is the total dosage and that includes all the thyroid hormones (I think there are at least 5). This is why levothyroxine is so bad for most people: they do not convert the T4 and then get a buildup of it. Jamie Bowthorpe at Stop the Thyroid Madness put up a great chart a biochemist did of the molecular structure of complete thyroid hormone versus levothyroxine; it was rather like saying taking one B vitamin is just as good as eating meat.
I need my T4 and my numbers are low, but I do not want to take any more thyroid as I also have adrenal issues. I am NOT convinced everyone can heal; that's sort of like saying type 1 diabetics could heal if they could just make insulin. I have more thyroid hormone in my system now than I ever did in my previous 70 years, and without it I would be dead.
