Back in 1975, I wrote a fairly simple program (using PLOne) plotting estimated growth in world population, resource discovery and development, and resource depletion, and when those two things would collide...The answer was around 2014....Years later, Martin Armstrong's AI predicted the same, and that the colllision would likely take place in the Ukraine...and it is threatening to expand in WWIII..
Yes, although fracking produces only light oil, which doesn't make diesel fuel, and destroyed enormous amounts of investor cash, some of it mine...But demand has grown as well....But the war in Ukraine, and Russia, is definitely about resources as well as power....
Just going over some morning reads, and to my surprise (and not), found we both read Prussia Gate ... my response to that recent post here (took me more than a half a day to craft, but at least garnered a no comment up-vote. Maybe because of the optimistic (not) ending. 😂
Much thanks, and it did indeed! Just finished listening to the link you sent, which sent me to ChatGPT for a summary of "Existential Risk Studies". Though my personal existential chances are diminishing by the day, I may have found what should have been my academic calling a lifetime ago. 😅
Atlas looks like the chagrined parent of whoever he’s looking at. He definitely has his own independent perspective… like grandpa. Dr John — I have to take the paragraphs slowly over time here because while the themes are familiar to a degree the details and named parties are unusually fulsome. One cannot catalog it all and basically it’s not an elite problem— it’s a Fallen World problem. And the way through has not changed— setting all the hero and idealized person complexes aside. It doesn’t matter if Marx was fat, slovenly, lazy, or drunk. There are lots of fit, neat, hard working, and sober appearing demons available to fill in. And, really working one’s way through the amount of philosophy that Marx did, however well or badly, doesn’t seem especially lazy. Simply put — Mankind cannot turn its back on the Creator. That creates a vacuum called hell. Thank you for update from the hot zone — food for prayer. 💜
Thanks for reading thoughtfully. If you read what I did not excerpt from that harsh critique of Marx, you will see that despite being an atheist, he was fascinated by the Devil.
Odd all around. He smoked heavily, and with obesity and hidradenitis suppurativa, he may well have been diabetic. I have never judged Marx harshly, myself, but this novel viewpoint was somewhat entertaining. (I shall do penance.)
Fallen-world problem, yes, but some fall and others climb somewhat. We are all beginning to engage the problems, I think.
Thanks for pointing out Marx’s fascination with the devil— I will look. I agree that it adds a lot to see the medical picture. Lead in Roman court wine and the foundation’s of distemper, fear and lashing out in pain have been such a part of our journey with diseases and frailty — as you know so well. I’m grateful for the education.

Peak-net-oil and peak CO2 production globally seem to have happened at the end of 2018...
Fracking helped extend net-oil a bit, it seems.

Cheers!
I read and appreciated your very well-considered comment, Steve, and left you a reply, which may add a bit to it, perhaps...

"Feminist Studies", perhaps?
What's your new calling, Tomodachi?

Your grandson's expression is apropos.
We've met before, but neither of us can figure out when or where so far.
;-)
LOL!
Bardi and the SEEDS model have optimistic views that routine mass deaths usually eclipses.
Still hopeful, still chopping wood and carrying water.
Onwards John!
Ugo wrote that "Age Of Exterminations" series and likely regretted it somewhat...
